Daily life
Šibenik, first documented in 1066 and considered one of the oldest towns founded by Croats themselves on the Adriatic, is known for the Cathedral of St James, built entirely of stone between 1431 and 1536 and UNESCO-listed since 2000. Daily planning moves between the cathedral square, the facade details left by builders Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikola Firentinac, the climb to St Michael's Fortress, the city's oldest stronghold, and the old town's streets. Transport
Šibenik has no airport of its own; the nearest is Split Airport, roughly 37-50 km away depending on the source. Direct buses connect the two. There is no tram. The city has its own ferry terminal near the waterfront centre. The UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St James and the hilltop St Michael's Fortress define a compact, walkable old town.
