Delphi & Central Greece: A Travel Guide

Delphi sat on the south-western slope of Mount Parnassus in the region of Phocis. Inside the hidden adyton of the Temple of Apollo, the priestess known as the Pythia delivered prophecies, and her voice was consulted as the oracle across the classical world. The temple that survives is a Doric building of the 4th century BC. In 1987 the site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Right beside the site, the Delphi Archaeological Museum holds its most famous find, the Charioteer of Delphi. About 8 kilometres east of Delphi, Arachova clings to the southern slope of Parnassus at roughly 970 metres.
